Cyndi Peltonen, an educator from Clawson, is running to represent the 13th Senate district, which includes Rochester, Rochester Hills, Troy, Clawson, Royal Oak, Berkley, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills.
Serving on the Clawson Board of Education over twenty years, Cyndi has extensive experience in crafting public policy that reflects the values of her constituents.
She is alarmed by legislation passed during the last three years that harms the quality of life for Michigan citizens. Cyndi will work hard to reverse laws attacking Michigan women, educators, working families, and retirees. She will continue to advocate for students of all ages and members of the LGBTQ community.
As a working mother, Cyndi earned her Bachelor of Music from Wayne State University in 2000. She taught music at North Hill elementary school in Rochester Hills, Baker MS and Troy High, Cranbrook Early Childhood Center, Detroit Country Day Lower School, and Frankel Jewish Academy. She regularly accompanies students for Solo and Ensemble Festivals.
Cyndi served as Music Director at Troy United Methodist Church and at Birmingham Unitarian Church. She maintains a private piano and voice studio, and currently works part-time at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills.
She and her husband, Bill, have lived in Clawson since 1980. They have raised four children, Rebecca 32, Meredith, 30, Will 28, and Mikey 25, all proud graduates of Clawson Public Schools, just like their Dad. Newlyweds Rebecca and Heather live near Kalamazoo, Will and Mikey live in Lansing, and Meredith, Cyndi’s Campaign Manager, lives in Clawson.
