Erika Geiss, Candidate for State Senate 6th District
Erika Geiss is the current State Representative (D-Taylor) for Michigan’s 12th House District and is the only progressive candidate running for the 6th State Senate District. She is the Vice-Chair of the Progressive Women’s Caucus and Chairs their Pay Equity Task Force. Erika also serves on three House committees: Commerce and Trade, Michigan Competitiveness (Democratic Vice Chairwoman), and Workforce and Talent Development. If elected to the State Senate, Erika will be the first woman to represent the district.
Throughout her service in the Michigan House, she has led initiatives on addressing the gender wage gap and other economic inequalities women face, addressing infant mortality, and improving maternal health. She has also consistently been a champion for improving public education, defending women’s reproductive rights and protecting women and girls from domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
A high priority for Erika is being active and engaged in her community. She sits on advisory boards of several community organizations and is Vice President of the PTO at her youngest child’s elementary school. Prior to being in the legislature, she was an adjunct at Wayne County Community College where she taught humanities.
Erika lives in Taylor with her husband Doug where they are raising their two children.
