Pam Byrnes is a mother, grandmother, lawyer, and small business person who has lived and worked in our community for over 30 years.
Pam is known as a woman who gets things done. As a State Representative, she earned a reputation as a consensus builder who works across the aisle. She was also a fierce advocate for women’s rights; sponsoring bills to create an exception for rape and incest to the abortion bill and sponsoring fair wage legislation. As the Director of Washtenaw County Friend of the Court, Pam helped women coming out of abusive homes get back on their feet and build stable homes for their children
Pam is no stranger to hard work. She worked full time while putting herself through law school at night. Years later as a single Mom, Pam managed the delicate balance of raising her daughter while building her legal career.
As a State Representative, Pam built a reputation as an independent voice. She helped pass legislation to support local economic development and small businesses. And Pam ushered the bipartisan Cottage Food Bill through the Legislature to end unnecessary regulations to help area farmers and local entrepreneurs thrive.
Most recently she was the Executive Director at the University of Michigan Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-STJU). UM-STJU is a program that provides University of Michigan engineering students and faculty a cross-cultural platform to engage in education and research.
Pam lives on a small farm outside of Chelsea with her husband Kent Brown.
