Kelly Breen, Candidate for State House, District 38
Kelly and her husband Matt, moved to Novi in 2006 and are currently raising two awesome kids and a golden retriever. Their home near a lake offers them the life they’ve sought and Kelly and Matt are passionate advocates of quality of life for every resident of Novi, the 38th District, and Michigan. They enjoy camping in their pop-up, yelling at the TV during MSU games, and spending time with friends and family.
Born in Detroit and raised in Dearborn Heights, Kelly’s dad is a high school teacher and her mother is a hospital dietician. The family moved to Northville when Kelly was 10. After graduating from Northville High School, Kelly attended James Madison College at Michigan State University where she studied government, public affairs and policy. During college, she served as a legislative intern and worked for a State Representative. While attending Wayne State University Law School, she was a Litigation Supervisor and Board Member for the Free Legal Aid Clinic, assisting residents of Wayne County in family and juvenile law matters. She also served as a Board Member for the Student Trial Advocacy Program and Student Board of Governors. Over the course of her career, she has practiced primarily insurance defense, representing large insurance companies and employers. After working in that capacity for over eleven years, she now advocates on behalf of injured workers. In addition to being a member of the Michigan Bar, she is a member of the Michigan Association for Justice, League of Women’s Voters, and participates with the Novi Parks Foundation, Michigan Moms Demand Action and the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation.
In 2017, as a first-time candidate, Kelly was elected to the Novi City Council, where she serves on several committees.
